ATD Fourth World calls for an assessment of the Millenium Development Goals

Since the G20 meeting in Pittsburg it has been clear that the priority of the world’s leaders is to preserve the financial system. For us, however, it is human beings that remain at the heart of our concerns. One of our current priorities is to investigate the effects of the Millenium Development Goals on those people and families facing the most extreme consequences of social exclusion and poverty.

Do we have the right to live on this earth

Today the world’s leaders are stressing the need to cooperate in the area of finance. That is not enough. For us, what is needed is cooperation to create a fairer world, in order to tackle three great challenges: an ethical challenge, a democratic challenge and a cultural and educational challenge.

This is what we are working towards in our «Contract of Commitments for 2008-2012», a contract of common commitments which has been drawn up together with other local and national partners and with the United Nations in particular.

Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated.
To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty.
